Thruxton BSB: First Superstock 1000 win of 2018 for Elliott

Former champion Josh Elliott emerged victorious from a five-way Pirelli National Superstock 1000 scrap this afternoon to take his first win of the season.

The Northern Irishman fended off Taylor Mackenzie, Lee Jackson, Billy McConnell and Alex Olsen after a race-long battle to bag his first victory in the class in nearly two years.

Recent series returnee and 2016 title-holder Mackenzie put the Bathams BMW into the lead with a strong start as Olsen and Jackson slotted in behind.

But Elliott was on a charge, and from back in fifth he moved Olsen aside before going after Mackenzie to take the lead.

Olsen took a brief turn on the front, but his advantage was short-lived as 2015 champion Elliott went underneath to put the OMG Racing Suzuki back in front.

The two, along with Jackson, Mackenzie and Buildbase Suzuki’s Billy McConnell began stretching a lead over the rest of the field as they scrapped amongst themselves in a dice for podium supremacy.

A few laps from home, however, Olsen dropped out of contention with a technical problem, leaving the front four to fight for rostrum honours.

Despite a few last-minute stabs from Jackson and Mackenzie, no one could stop Elliot from taking his first win of the season by 0.2s, while Mackenzie pipped FS-3 Racing’s Jackson at the line by 0.035s to take second.
