Redline KTM’s Joe Irving was victorious in the Motul British Motostar championship at Thruxton, after he held off the attacks from Jordan Racing’s Jordan Weaving this afternoon.
On the first lap going into the opening corner it was FAB Racing’s Bradley Ray who got the lead but he fell in a fast crash at Allard and was taken to the medical centre to be assessed. With Ray out of contention it paved the way for Irving, Weaving and Uribe to battle for the lead.
But on the 12th lap of 14 Hobson and 125 rider Rendell overtook Uribe to go into third and fourth respectively. Spike Racing’s Elliott Lodge was also inside the top five, but took a nasty tumble, but some how managed to walk away pretty much unscathed.
At the flag Irving took the Moto3 win from Weaving, with Two4 Motorsport’s James Hobson completing the Moto3 rostrum, after finishing third - but fourth overall. Hobson tried in vain to make a move on Banks Racing’s Edward Rendell, but he couldn’t, and Rendell took the 125 victory, with Joma Racing’s Mike Brouwers getting the second spot on the rostrum in the 125 class.
It was a solid ride from RS Racing’s Georgina Polden. She ended the race ninth overall, but had done enough to snatch the final step on the 125 podium – her first this year in the class. FPW Racing’s American rider Jayson Uribe was involved in a tousle with Hobson, and at the Club Chicane on the final lap ended up narrowly missing out on the Moto3 podium.
“It is great to go and get the win today, and I really like this track here at Thruxton. It was sad that Bradley Ray crashed out, but it was good for me to get the victory, and from Jordan too. These points will definitely help me in the championship,” said Irving, at the track.
