Thruxton BSB: Law back for more with Astro JJR Triumph

Mason Law is back for a second bite of the cherry with Astro JJR Triumph this weekend as Bennetts British Superbikes heads to Thruxton.

With two top-seven finishes under his belt as he partnered Rhys Irwin in the Quattro British Supersport class, Law’s first impressions of the Triumph were strong, and he’s eager for more of the same at round six.

“The pickup of the motor and the drive out of corners was a pleasant surprise,” Law said of his Triumph Street Triple 765RS. “I’ve ridden bikes in the past where you have to keep a precise point in the rev range for competitive drive out of the turns compared to the competition, but on the Triumph there’s more flexibility there making fast exits even more reliable. It’s fast too, even in the early sessions when I wasn’t yet up to full pace the top speeds were still strong.

“There was a great atmosphere within the team which was really enjoyable as we worked through the weekend and between Rhys and myself there was plenty of data, especially as we use such different setups.

“The bike definitely feels like it can get onto the podium so I’m really excited to have the opportunity to come back with the team for this weekend at Thruxton.

“Although we lost grip at Brands the hotter the track got, and we’re set for a heatwave this weekend, Thruxton also has a really abrasive surface that delivers a lot of grip so I’m hopeful we can go well.”

Teammate Irwin spent the intense weekend at Brand Hatch running on the fringes of the top ten.

“The handling issues we’ve been working through all season still gave me trouble at Brands,” explained Irwin, “but we’ve made massive strides after we used race two there as a data-gathering exercise and then did some extra testing at Donington.

“I think we now have a solution that will deliver at Thruxton and while I don’t want to pin all my hopes on it I’m quietly confident we can move forwards to the sharp end of the action.”
