Jack Scott (Kovara Projects/RS Racing One) became the first GP rider to win a Quattro Group British Supersport/GP2 Championship race outright in 2022 when he got the better of Jack Kennedy (Mar-Train Racing Yamaha) at Thruxton's final chicane on the final lap of Saturday’s Sprint race.

The duo had been locked in battle all race with Bradley Perie (Appleyard Macadam Yamaha) eventually taking third from Luke Stapleford (Gearlink Kawasaki) after an equally close battle.
 
It was Perie who led the field round at the end of the first lap with Kennedy, Scott, Harry Truelove on the second Appleyard machine, Stapleford and Damon Rees (Ashcourt Racing Yamaha) hot on his tail but second time around Kennedy moved to the front at the final chicane as Rees crashed out of sixth a few yards further back.
 
Scott also moved ahead of Perie before they crossed the line to start lap three and the GP2 rider then took over the lead. It was still close though with less than half a second covering the top three. Stapleford was now fourth, albeit 1.2s behind Perie, with Truelove and Lee Johnston on the second Ashcourt machine now completing the top six. Luke Jones’s strong performances came to an end though with an early retirement on his Ducati.
 
Kennedy reasserted himself at the front on lap four with 0.3s now covering him, Scott and Perie and their battling allowed Stapleford to reel them in and it was now a four-way battle for the lead as they started lap six. Meanwhile, Jamie Perrin was up to fifth on his private Yamaha.
 
The leading four riders continued to circulate nose to tail with Kennedy remaining at the head of the pack but by the start of lap seven, they’d split into two groups with Kennedy and Scott opening up a one-second gap over Perie and Stapleford. Further back, Eugene McManus (Completely Motorbikes/Affinity Kawasaki) had overhauled both Perrin and Truelove to take over fifth.
 
With three laps to go, Kennedy’s lead remained slight at just 0.110s but although Scott stayed glued to his rear wheel, it looked like he wasn’t able to find a place to pass. However, on the final lap, he got good drive up the hill to the final chicane and out did Kennedy on the brakes to take the overall win although, of course, Kennedy again took maximum points in the Supersport class.
 
Perie got the better of Stapleford for third with McManus successfully seeing off the challenges of Perrin, and Truelove to take fifth. The Astro-JJR triumph pairing of Mason Law and Rhys Irwin took eighth and ninth with Johnston fading to tenth. Korie McGreevy, in 13th overall, was the second highest placed GP2 runner.
