Thruxton BSB: Vickers cruises to Superstock 600 win

Dominant Ryan Vickers soared to his sixth Pirelli National Superstock 600 victory this morning after a number of contenders crashed out.

The Mototechniks Yamaha rider led nearly every lap while early threats Korie McGreevy and Aaron Clifford suffered DNFs late in the race, putting paid to any hopes of toppling the championship front-runner.

Knockhill winner McGreevey launched off the line to grab the holeshot, but it didn’t take Vickers long to find the front as he slipped past Clifford, pushing McGreevy down to third.

Vickers immediately stretched a nearly one-second gap, but Clifford cut it down a few laps in and took the lead on lap four.

But the series leader was back in front of the pack moments later and while Northern Irishman McGreevy had moved back into the runner-up spot, his podium hopes were over when he crashed out at Goodwood, leaving Clifford and Milo Ward to slot into second and third.

Clifford’s rostrum chances were also over a few laps later when he joined McGreevy in the crash club, leaving Ward to a comfortable second.

As Vickers cruised across the line with nearly six seconds in hand over G&S Racing’s Ward, Ben Luxton bagged the final podium position after fending off Cameron Lee in the closing moments.
