Aron Canet has reportedly made the surprise decision to stay in Moto2

Gold & Goose

According to reports from the MotoGP paddock at the Red Bull Ring, Aron Canet has signed a two-year deal to remain in Moto2.

After weeks of rumours stating that Aron Canet would make the move to World Superbikes with BMW, it has now been reported that he has signed to stay in Moto2.

These new reports have come from Motorsport.com at the Austrian Grand Prix, as the Spanish media outlet claims that Canet has signed a two-year deal to remain in Moto2.

It has been suggested that Canet has put pen to paper on a deal with the ELF Marc VDS Racing Team for the 2026 and 2027 seasons.

If Canet does join the Belgian team, this would be his first time riding a Boscoscuro chassis since he left the Aspar Moto2 Team at the end of the 2021 season.

"My future isn't set in stone, but it's pretty decided. About a week and a half ago, I made the decision about where I'm going to race, but it's not 100% certain," Canet admitted on DAZN this Thursday.

"It was a difficult decision, because you already have to consider many things in the future that might interest you. I believe the choice I made is the best for my sporting career, for my mentality, and for my motivation.

"My motivation doesn't depend on getting into MotoGP, that would be the case for a 21-year-old Aron Canet. At 26, motivation no longer lies in wanting to go to MotoGP, it lies in the present and being a world champion. Whether it's in Moto2 or Superbikes, it doesn't matter at all to me. I want to be world champion."

It had been reported in recent weeks that Canet was in the hunt for a two-year deal in the World Superbike paddock. But neither BMW nor Ducati were willing to offer him one, so a two-year option in Moto2 would be more attractive to the 25-year-old.
