Darryn Binder will spearhead Husqvarna’s foray into Moto2 from 2023 as the current MotoGP rider joins Lukas Tulovic at Intact GP

With no space for the South African on next season’s premier class grid, Binder will make the step to Moto2, the class he leapfrogged in favour of his rookie year at WithU Yamaha, under the stewardship of Jürgen Lingg. The South African’s teammate, Tulovic, is the newly crowned Moto2 European champion for the Liqui Moly Intact GP Junior Team and raced the 2019 season in the intermediate class with KTM. The 22-year-old German also spent two full seasons competing in MotoE with an additional 2022 wildcard at Jerez.

The Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP banner will house both Moto2 and Moto3 squads for next year as the current Peter Öttl-run outfit joins the fray, retaining the services of Ayumu Sasaki with Dutchman Collin Veijer alongside for the new year. A stellar season on the FR 250 GP so far, has seen Sasaki claim victories at both Assen and the Red Bull Ring with six further podiums to his name. 17-year-old Veijer, meanwhile, is in contention for the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup having already won three races in 2022.

“I'm really happy to be part of the Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP team next year," Binder confirmed. "The team has so much experience and is incredibly professional!

“I'm looking forward to trying out the Moto2 bike and I believe that together we can achieve good results.

“I hope that everything I've learned this year in MotoGP can help me adapt to Moto2 as quickly as possible and then hopefully we can fight for some good positions. I'm very grateful to the whole team for giving me this great opportunity and I can't wait to work with everyone!”

“For three seasons we have been able to carry the Husqvarna Motorcycles name highly in Moto3 and it is very satisfying to continue the story together with Jürgen and a bigger programme now in Moto2,” Moto3 Team Manager, Öttl said.

“Ayumu stays with us and after some excellent results in 2022 we hope we can go for even more in 2023. Collin, on the other hand, is a rider with a lot of potential and we trust that he will carry on learning and building his career. I want to thank Husqvarna Motorcycles for the trust and the confidence. We will work hard to keep the Husqvarna name at the front of Moto3.”
