Binder sets Kyalami benchmark

Red Bull KTM’s Brad Binder has set the benchmark at the revolutionised Kyalami Circuit in South Africa with the first official lap on two wheels.

With the Johannesburg venue just an hour from Binder’s hometown of Krugersdorp, the double MotoGP race winner enjoyed the newly upgraded 4.522km, 15-corner Grand Prix circuit - which has been out of international action since its auction in 2014 - on his factory RC-16 over the summer break.

Having recently achieved FIA Grade 2 track certification, Binder became the first rider to set a milestone lap on the anti-clockwise layout in 30 years, securing a 1’42.26 effort, and heralding the circuit’s reintroduction as an international motorsport venue with potential for its return to the MotoGP calendar in the coming years.
