Camier uses dirt-track to change riding style for MotoGP

Britain’s Leon Camier will get a further chance to impress MotoGP bosses this weekend as he replaces the injured Nicky Hayden for a fourth time on the production Drive M7 Honda RCV1000R and has been dirt-track training with Bradley Smith to adopt his riding style

Hayden is still working to get fit after an operation saw three arthritic bones removed from his right wrist . Camier has been in the chair since Indianapolis and is currently working on adjusting his riding style in order to use the rear brake to get mid-corner grip and drive. He was riding dirt-track with Bradley Smith on Sunday at Motorland Aragon to get in some much-needed practice.

“Using the rear brake as much as I need to is a difficult thing to get my head around. On left-hand corners it’s not too bad and I was able to match Brad but on rights, he is smoking me. It’s a lot to do with body positioning and getting into the right place on the bike,” said Camier, speaking to Bikesport News.

Camier will go back to a setup he found at the Brno test for this weekend’s race as the team kind of lost their way a little at Silverstone. He says that Misano will be tough as there are a lot of hard braking areas which require some definite setup finesse.

“The plan is go back to somewhere near the Brno setup and just get as many laps in as I can. We were always playing catch-up at Silverstone because we lost the first session. I really didn’t know about how quickly you can lose heat in the tyres, so that is something I have to bear in mind right from the start on Friday.”
