Checa testing Rossi's 2012 Ducati MotoGP bike at Jerez

Reigning World Superbike Champion Carlos Checa is at the Jerez circuit in Spain at is currently ripping round the track on Ducati's 2012 MotoGP contender, the GP12.

Joined by full-time tester Franco Battaini, Checa will spend three days at the circuit to evaluate the new machinery which, according to technical god Filippo Preziosi, is 90 per cent new for this year.

According to the stout chaps at GPone.com, the bikes were still being assembled as the Wroom media circus went on and Valentino Rossi and Nicky Hayden will only have one bike each for the Sepang test in a fortnight.

There is a big rumour circulating in the Italian media that Ducati may have abandoned their 90-degree V configuration for the engine in order to facilitiate more adjustment to weight distribution.
