After completing the Thai Grand Prix Fabio di Giannantonio's season came to an end so he could undergo shoulder surgery.
The chequered flag at the Thai Grand Prix signalled the end of Fabio di Giannantonio's 2024 season. Despite two rounds remaining in the MotoGP Championship the Italian rider has ended his year early to have a shoulder operation.
At the Australian Grand Prix, the VR46 Racing Team announced that di Giannantonio will undergo surgery. The 26-year-old needs to have his left shoulder operated on before the 2025 MotoGP season, so missing the final rounds of the 2024 season is the most logical decision.
After the Thai Grand Prix, di Giannantonio sits eighth in the MotoGP World Championship. In the previous two Grands Prix, he finished in fourth place, just missing out on his first podium of the season.
"After the third lap, I started to get a rhythm, and I started to be really fast," di Giannantonio told MotoGP.com after the Thai Grand Prix.
"The podium was there! It is a pity because I really wanted a podium today. But it is ok it is part of the game, we have to be super happy with our performance today and the whole Championship.
"We grit out teeth across seven races in two months, it has been tough with my shoulder, it has been tough. We have to keep our focus to never give up. Because the pain has always been there when in front of the cameras you can't see it but it has always been there."
di Giannantonio will be replaced by Andrea Iannone for the Malaysian and Valencian Grand Prix.
