Fabio Quartararo reviews Yamaha's development across the 2025 season

Gold & Goose

Despite several upgrades during the 2025 MotoGP season, Fabio Quartararo believes Yamaha's biggest upgrade did not come this year.

Fabio Quartararo has revealed his assessment of Yamaha's progress throughout the 2025 MotoGP season this weekend at the Mandalika Circuit.

At the start of the 2025 season, it looked like Yamaha had made a step forward and had shown progress with competitive results. However, the second half of the season has been difficult for Yamaha and Quartararo.

Yamaha has been busy developing a V4 engine, and has slowed its development on the 2025 Yamaha M1. Although after testing the new V4 Yamaha at the Misano Test, Quartararo was not positive about the new machine.

Ahead of the Indonesian Grand Prix, Quartararo was asked if he was confident of the progress Yamaha has made with its current package.

"No, I think the biggest step we did for this year was the 2024 Barcelona test," Quartararo said.

"Then of course we made some improvements. But we saw that actually the best moments that we had were the beginning of the year - the first three races [in Europe], that was Le Mans, Jerez and Silverstone.

"Since then, we are really struggling. But, like I said, I want to focus on myself and try to improve as a rider."

In 2024, one lap pace was a difficulty for Quartararo and Yamaha, but this season, his Qualifying performances have improved.

However, even though he has four pole positions to his name across the 2025 season, his race performances have not seen the same improvement.

"Well, last year was tough. The potential was there, but we could not really make the tyres work on the rear," he explained.

"So, hopefully this year is going to be better. But on one lap, I know I can be really fast on this track. So, let’s see if we can be fast on the race pace."
