Francesco Bagnaia explains his Sunday comeback at the Catalan Grand Prix

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia was able to bounce back from a difficult Friday and Saturday and was inside the top ten on Sunday.

During the Catalan Grand Prix, Francesco Bagnaia had a terrible Friday and Saturday, but he was able to turn it around on Sunday.

After finishing Friday in 21st place, he then went on to qualify in 21st place and crossed the line in 14th place in the Sprint Race on Saturday afternoon.

However, on Sunday, the Italian turned things around and came from 21st on the grid to finish in seventh place at the end of the Grand Prix.

"I think imagining something more than this would have been difficult," Bagnaia told MotoGP.com.

"I am quite happy, I think the maximum result from today could have been fifth place, but recovering all these places was difficult on the rear tyre. In the last five laps, I was struggling quite a lot.

"But this morning we found something that gave me a little bit more rear grip, and helped me have more confidence on corner entry. It helped a lot, so that was a good step.

"The next one is Misano, and I do not want to think too much, I want to enjoy Misano and start the weekend better than this one."

Despite his comeback at the Catalan Grand Prix, Bagnaia is still 'dreaming of better results' for the factory Ducati team.

"I am still dreaming of better results for the team," he explained.

"Finally, we did it on a Sunday. Sometimes you start badly, and the first change to the bike is an improvement. Sometimes you go in the wrong direction, and it does not work.

"It is a matter of details, and this time we arranged it for Sunday."

Next weekend is the San Marino Grand Prix, which is one of Bagnaia and Ducati's home rounds, but the two-time Champion is not adding 'extra pressure' on himself.

"I don't want to have any extra pressure, I just want to enjoy the weekend," Bagnaia stated.

"I do not want to make the same mistakes as I did in Balaton, considering this is the first weekend with a good feeling. So, I will relax and see if I can do a better job."
