Francesco Bagnaia reflects on his record breaking pole position lap at Motegi

The Japanese Grand Prix saw Francesco Bagnaia claim his second Pole Position of the 2025 MotoGP season.

For the first time since the Czech Republic Grand Prix, Francesco Bagnaia will start from Pole Position after setting a new All-Time Lap Record at the Twin Ring Motegi.

The Italian rider was able to turn his fortunes around after the San Marino Grand Prix with an extremely positive Misano MotoGP Test.

After qualifying on pole for the second time this season, the two-time MotoGP World Champion was full of praise for his factory Ducati team.

"I am super happy, I feel great, this is something that I was missing from last year, enjoying this kind of feeling," Bagnaia told TNT Sports after claiming Pole Position.

"It is true that I had a Pole Position at Brno already, but honestly, I only got that because Marc [Marquez] crashed and I pushed like crazy. I got it without really knowing why, but in this case, not.

"I was there pushing a lot, knowing I was able to do it, and it is fantastic to be back to this feeling. My team did an amazing job last night to give me two very similar spec bikes. We started with two very different ones, one from the Misano Test and one from the Misano Race.

"It was difficult to do a weekend with two very different setups, so they did an amazing job to try and give me the same feeling."

When asked about his chances in the Sprint Race and the Grand Prix, Bagnaia played them down and has set a top-five finish as his aim for the Sprint Race.

"Let's see, I do not want to think too much," he stated.

"I just want to enjoy the moment and see if I can fight. The objective is to finish inside the top five as that is something I have been missing from before Hungary. I need to reset and try to do a good job."
