Gresini Honda issue statement denying Simoncelli WSB ride

Marco Simoncelli's Gresini Honda team have issued a statement telling the world that the Italian will not be riding any kind of World Superbike in competition following his appearance in the Castrol Honda garage at Monza.

Apparently, some sections of the media (probably Italian) decided that because Simoncelli sat on a Fireblade, he would instantly be racing one at the first available opportunity. He isn't. Except they are preparing a Blade for him to ride, should he so want...

The statement reads:

"Marco Simoncelli, an HRC rider competing in the MotoGP World Championship in Team San Carlo Honda Gresini colours, will not take part in any World Superbike races during the 2011 season. Team San Carlo Honda Gresini are preparing a Honda CBR 1000-RR for Marco Simoncelli in order for him to carry out, if he so wishes, test runs at circuits yet to be decided (in accordance with FIM regulations).

"This statement is being made in order to contradict reports from certain news organisations following the presence of Marco Simoncelli at the Italian round of the World Superbike Championship, which took place at Monza on Sunday 8th May."
