Gold & Goose

During the Friday afternoon MotoGP Practice session, Herve Poncharal confirmed that Maverick Vinales would attempt to ride on Saturday.

After missing the Czech Republic Grand Prix due to a shoulder injury that he sustained at the German Grand Prix, Maverick Vinales returned to action at the Red Bull Ring.

There were a lot of doubts over Vinales' return as he may have committed to his return too early. However, after ending Free Practice One in 20th, the Spaniard attempted to take part in Practice on Friday afternoon.

But the Spaniard only completed six laps in the afternoon session before calling it a day. But during the session, Herve Poncharal confirmed that Vinales would attempt to ride on Saturday morning.

"He is feeling good and bad," Poncharal told TNT Sports during Friday afternoon Practice.

"He is doing better than we expected, which is why we had Pol Espargaro here. We have been waiting all morning to see if the pain was too much.

"Although the pain and the raw feeling are not too bad, still, it is not as good as he would have dreamed of. Right now, he thinks he is better off waiting and not going out again this afternoon, so he is fitter and fresher tomorrow morning.

"So, he knows that Q2 is unreachable right now. He wants to rest, and he thinks tomorrow will be better because already from yesterday to today his movement is better.

"This is the plan, he still wants to ride, because this is a weekend where he is not going to do anything great. But he wants to train to be ready for next week."
