In the penultimate round of the 2024 season, Luca Marini scored more points but is still disappointed with his finishing positions.
Luca Marini has now scored points in the last four Grand Prix weekends after a disappointing year with Repsol Honda.
The Italian stepped out of his brother's shadow for the 2024 season as he left the VR46 Racing Team to join Repsol Honda. However, Marini's first year on the RC213V has been more negative than positive. But in recent weeks he has managed to score solid points.
The Malaysian Grand Prix saw Marini scrape into the points as he finished in 15th. However, Marini is still not satisfied with the position he finished the Malaysian Grand Prix in.
"The race was a little bit hot," Marini explained. "From the physical side, I am happy with my performance. The grip was quite low with the heat so we struggled for some traction during the race. With the quick start procedure, everything also got hotter which complicated some things for the second start.
"During the race, our tyre management was quite good and I was able to make up ground later, especially under braking. We started far back so it’s difficult to catch up. I am not happy with P15, the position doesn’t show all the work that we have done nor the race that I did today. Points are good, but we want more because everyone is working very hard inside Honda."
Marini was the second-highest Honda in the Malaysian Grand Prix as Johann Zarco finished in 11th. However, both Joan Mir and Takaaki Nakagami did not finish the race.
Marini is now seven points behind his teammate (Mir), and with one round left of the 2024 season could pass him in the Championship standings.
