'I didn’t have the chance to push like I wanted' - Bagnaia struggled due to a limited amount of time attacks

Gold & Goose

Francesco Bagnaia was at the sharp end during the Sepang Test, but he believes he could have done better.

On the final day of the Sepang Test, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP World Champion ended the day in second. Francesco Bagnaia took his Ducati GP25 to a 1:56.500 lap time on his 11th lap of the day.

On the surface, it looks like a positive end to the test for Bagnaia but he was not happy with his final result. The Italian could not push on the time attack how he wanted to and only had one opportunity to do so.

"From my personal perspective, this test I didn’t have the chance to really push like I wanted,” Bagnaia said after the Sepang Test.

"My configuration of the time attack was able to beat the lap time, but with just one-time attack it was difficult to explode like I’m [normally] doing when I do a time attack.

"But, apart from that I’m happy that all the jobs done were useful for us to understand where to improve and to understand which base to decide to use in Thailand."

The 28-year-old also went on to talk about Ducati's rivals for the 2025 MotoGP season. Bagnaia believes Yamaha will be back towards the front in 2025 and that Fabio Quartararo will be a big rival this season.

However, he also mentioned how Yamaha completed six days of testing at Sepang due to their concessions.

"I think that we will have a switch in terms of who will be behind Ducati during this season,” Bagnaia said.

"I think Yamaha did a very good job, but we have to wait for Thailand because they did six days of testing, so maybe some performance also comes from this.

"But it’s true that Fabio [Quartararo] had fantastic pace on all three days, and the time attack, that was one weak point from last year, was fast today.

"So, I think that they did a very good job."
