'I gave it my all until the end' - Marco Bezzecchi overcame a poor start to win the MotoGP Sprint

Gold & Goose

Marco Bezzecchi fought his way through from a poor start to Sprint Race victory on Saturday at the Indonesian Grand Prix.

The Indonesian Grand Prix has been dominated by Marco Bezzecchi across track action on Friday and Saturday.

Bezzecchi topped the timesheets on Friday afternoon in the timed Practice session, before going on to claim pole position and then victory in the Sprint Race on Saturday.

Despite a poor start in the Sprint, Bezzecchi was able to fight through from eighth place to take victory away from Fermin Aldeguer on the last lap.

"My hopes were different, but we need to understand what happened at the start," Bezzecchi said after winning the MotoGP Sprint Race.

"We need to know if it was my mistake or not, because for the first couple of metres we started slowly. Afterwards, the bike was ok, but I don't know why I lost a lot of ground across the first 10 or 20 metres.

"It was tough, I was further back, but I knew I at least had the pace to fight back. I lost a bit of time with [Luca] Marini, but I tried to move in steps. At first, I was aiming for the podium, then when I saw I was third and I was catching Raul [Fernandez], I was aiming for second.

"Then I passed Raul, and Fermin [Aldeguer] was super far, so I did not expect to catch him; I just pushed to secure second place. When I was pushing, I saw I was catching Fermin, then I decided to try, and I gave my all until the end."

In recent weeks, Bezzecchi and Aprilia have been working in harmony, but the Italian wants to continue working hard, despite their positive results.

"We are just working day by day, and the guys at the factory are super cool and working very well," he explained.

"We are finding improvements, and this has given me confidence, but we never stop. We are in a good moment, but we don't care. We still have to work like we are in a bad moment, we have to continue this way to improve more."
