'I have got no words, but I am really happy' - Ogura is crowned Moto2 World Champion in Thailand

Gold and Goose

For the first time in his career, Ai Ogura has been crowned World Champion as he clinched the Moto2 title in Thailand.

After four difficult years in the Moto2 Championship Ai Ogura has been crowned World Champion. The Japanese rider won the title at the Thai Grand Prix, with two races remaining in the 2024 season.

Ogura rode for the IDEMITSU Honda Team Asia squad in Moto2 from 2021 to 2023. However, for the 2024 season, Ogura left the Honda umbrella in search of pastures new. The #79 ended up riding for the new MT Helmets - MSi team on a Boscoscuro chassis for the first time in his career.

Across the 2024 season, the 23-year-old won three Grands Prix and stood on five further podiums on his way to winning the title. However, his season was not smooth sailing as he fractured his right hand at the Austrian Grand Prix earlier this season.

After clinching the title at the Chang International Circuit the Japanese rider spoke to MotoGP.com in Parc Ferme.

"It is just unbelievable," Ogura said. "What went through my mind was all the faces of people I've worked with. From my team now, but the Cup, the CEV and Moto3. I cant say thanks enough to everybody, it just feels amazing. I have got no words, but I am really happy."

Ogura will leave the Moto2 Championship at the end of the 2024 season. For 2025 the World Champion will ride for Trackhouse Racing in MotoGP on an Aprilia.
