A sick Marc Marquez set a new all time lap record during Friday Practice at the Thai Grand Prix.
On the opening day at the Thai Grand Prix, it was Marc Marquez who topped the timesheets. The Spanish rider set a new all-time lap record at the Chang International Circuit on Friday afternoon in Practice.
Despite setting a blisteringly fast pace on track Marquez struggled with the conditions during the sessions. The eight-time World Champion has arrived at the Thai Grand Prix feeling unwell and 'suffered' during Friday's track action.
"Today I suffered a bit because I am sick," Marquez told MotoGP.com. "So, it was not nice to ride in the hot temperatures out there. Apart from that, we tried to find the best way from FP1, the base setup was working well. We just made small adjustments, and it looks like we have good pace. But we need to understand tomorrow what we can do in Qualifying."
Marquez went on to compare the conditions in Thailand to the conditions at the Indonesian Grand Prix. The #93 believes the Thai Grand Prix will be more physically demanding due to the circuit layout in Buriram.
"The conditions are super hot, and this circuit in particular has a lot of stop and goes," Marquez explained. "In Mandalika it was not as physically demanding, even though it was warmer than here. Today was a tough day for everybody and it will be a tough weekend."
Finally, Marquez was asked if he could take victory this weekend like he did last week at Phillip Island. However, Marquez believes that Jorge Martin, Francesco Bagnaia and Enea Bastianini will all be fighting at the front during the races.
"Let's see, they (Martin and Bagnaia) are riding super fast, looks to me like I have made a step and I am closer to them. I also expect (Enea) Bastianini to be strong because when he is fast on Friday he will be super fast in the race. So, let's see what we can do."
