Jorge Martin dominated the Australian Grand Prix Sprint Race on Saturday as he extended his Championship advantage.
After qualifying on pole position Jorge Martin dominated the Australian Sprint Race. This was the Spaniard's first Sprint Race victory since the San Marino Grand Prix in September.
The moment that the lights went out Martin began his domination in the 13-lap race. The #89 pulled a large gap over the rest of the field in the early laps and began to manage his advantage.
The Spaniard did admit that he believed that the Sprint Race would be more difficult. Joining Martin on the front row was Marc Marquez, who Martin believed would challenge him for victory. However, Marquez made a mistake into turn one allowing Martin to extend his lead.
Martin crossed the line with a one-and-a-half-second advantage over second place. With his closest Championship rival finishing in fourth place Martin has extended his Championship lead with seven races left this year.
"Finally, back to a Sprint Victory again, I am really happy," Martin said after the Sprint Race.
"Today I thought it was going to be much more difficult with Marc (Marquez) really close behind me. But I don't know what happened in the first few laps I saw I was increasing the gap.
"So I was trying to keep a really fast pace and when I saw I had a big gap I managed a bit to make it to the end. It wasn't easy, the wind was a lot and it was not constant either.
"Finally we are winning again, but now we need to focus on tomorrow as it will be a really long race."
