'I tried everything, I was on the limit' - Marc Marquez admits he could not match Alex Marquez

Gold & Goose

Marc Marquez could not match his younger brother at the Catalan Grand Prix, as he was pushing over the limit on Sunday.

Marc Marquez's run of seven Grand Prix victories came to an end at the Catalan Grand Prix after he was beaten by his younger brother, Alex Marquez.

The Ducati Lenovo Team rider claimed victory in the Sprint Race after Alex crashed out of the lead, but on Sunday, he gave up his chances of victory after riding over the limit to try to catch his brother.

"I already expected on Thursday that Alex would be the rider to beat," Marc Marquez told MotoGP.com.

"He is second in the Championship, he is riding in a very good way, especially here in Catalunya. He has won here in Moto3, twice in Moto2, and now in MotoGP.

"I tried everything, I was on the limit during the last laps. But I was making mistakes at Turn Seven and Ten, so I gave up.

"It is true that Alex today was faster than us, even yesterday, but he crashed. But I am happy, because at a circuit where we struggle more than usual we were close to the top guy."

There was a chance Marc Marquez could win the MotoGP World Championship at Misano, but with Alex's performance, Marc will now have to wait until the Japanese Grand Prix to try to wrap up his ninth title.

"There are still seven races to go, in the end my target is to keep the same mentality," he explained.

"I want to control my limits, control the bike, control the points. Maybe today I could have gone all in, but it is not the time to do that. It is time to keep going and keep the same concentration.

"I am happy, because as I said on Thursday, there will be a day when I need to accept that somebody is faster than me. Today, my little brother was faster than me."
