Alex Marquez 'settled for the podium' after facing issues with his front tyre in the latter laps at the Indonesian Grand Prix.
At the Indonesian Grand Prix, Alex Marquez was able to claim his 22nd podium across Grands Prix and Sprint Races.
The BK8 Gresini Racing MotoGP rider ended the Indonesian Grand Prix in third place, after finishing the Sprint Race in fourth place. He was able to overcome a difficult start when his ride height device did not engage, but he battled through the field to feature on the podium.
"It was like an endurance race, it was so long and so hot," Marquez told MotoGP.com after the Indonesian Grand Prix.
"I was riding at 80% to not make any mistakes and to stay on the bike. I was in the train of Yamahas for many laps, which cost me a lot of time. Also, I made a mistake at the start; I did not engage the front device. Something happened at that point, and I heard a really big noise from the front, and it was not able to engage.
"But my start was not so bad, it was quite ok, so to be on the podium today I am happy. Especially because we suffered quite a bit with the soft tyre, from lap seven it was not easy.
"I want to congratulate Fermin [Aldeguer]; he did a fantastic job, and everyone who has been at Gresini has won a race. It is an amazing thing, and an amazing family."
Marquez admitted that he 'settled for the podium' after his front tyre had reached its maximum and he was unable to battle with Pedro Acosta for second place.
"I was on the limit, physically, and everything," he explained about his battle for second.
"I did many laps behind many bikes, and I think my front tyre was at its maximum. On some corners, I was making mistakes, and in the end, I gave up and settled for the podium. Today, I am happy with the podium.
"I saw Marc [Marquez] crash, and I know he is not really good, but it is like this, it is life. Sometimes you have to accept this."
