'I was strong in my strong points, so that was super-positive' - Marquez completes his final race with Gresini Racing

Gold and Goose

In his final race of the 2024 season, Marc Marquez finished in second place behind Francesco Bagnaia.

Marc Marquez's 2024 season ended with a second place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, which was enough to secure third in the World Championship. This race also marked the end of his time with the Gresini Racing Team.

Despite a positive Sunday, it was not an easy weekend for the eight-time World Champion. Marquez had struggled during Practice and then went on to finish seventh in the Sprint Race on Saturday. However, Marquez highlighted the work that his technician did to turn his bike around for Sunday.

“Today was a difficult day, especially because yesterday was a difficult Sprint race,” Marquez said in the press conference after the Solidarity Grand Prix.

“But my technician was super great through the night, he doesn’t sleep a lot I think. We analysed everything we did, and we came back more or less to the bike we started with in FP1.

"Already in the Warm Up I start to feel better and in the race I was riding in my way. Of course, we had some weak points, but I was strong in my strong points, so that was super-positive.”

In the final race of the 2024 season, Marquez finished behind his future teammate, Francesco Bagnaia. The Spaniard was not able to put up a fight against Bagnaia as he spent the whole race shadowing the Italian.

“It was many laps behind Pecco, trying to control the situation,” Marquez explained.  But those last five laps I couldn’t follow him. Every time when I was close to him, the front started to lose a lot for the temperature.

“Today he was much faster than me. But that second place is the best ending to this very nice chapter in my career that was with the Gresini team where I enjoyed a lot and it’s the best way to say thanks.”
