Augusto Fernandez confirmed at the Barcelona Test that his MotoGP future will be with Yamaha.
The 2025 MotoGP season is already underway with the riders back out on track for their first test on their 2025 machines.
However, one rider who is missing from the circuit is Augusto Fernandez. The former Moto2 Champion spent two years with GasGas Factory Racing Tech3 in 2023 and 2024. However, he did not retain his seat in KTM and his future was unknown.
Fernandez was present at the MotoGP Test and spoke to MotoGP.com in pitlane whilst dressed in his new colours.
"I am very happy," Fernandez told MotoGP.com. "As I have been saying the last couple of races it was so close to being done. Finally, we have done it. I will be riding for Yamaha, I am super happy with the project, I am getting to know the guys and how they work, but I am just listening today."
The Spaniard was not able to get out on track for the one-day test in Barcelona but believes he will test before the new year.
"We will try to get something sorted before the end of the year in December," Fernandez stated. "It is not confirmed but we are trying our best to get a test on the bike before the end of the year."
'It is hard today to see the bikes riding and not being one of them.'
Yamaha has six wildcard appearances for the 2025 MotoGP season, and Fernandez believes that he will be using all six of them throughout next season.
"I will be doing all the wildcards possible," Fernandez explained. "They have six so I will be racing with all six. I am ready for this new project, it is different. It is hard today to see the bikes riding and not being one of them."
Fernandez will join Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso in the Yamaha MotoGP Test project in 2025. The British and Italian riders have vast experience in MotoGP that the Spaniard hopes to learn from.
"Cal and Dovi have a lot of experience so it is super nice to be with them," Fernandez said. "All the experience they have in MotoGP and as test riders I can't wait to be working with them and riding with them. I am looking forward to less stress from the race weekends and riding the bike in a more relaxed way and listening to their comments."
