Alex Marquez has been given a chance to tell his side of the story about his contact with Francesco Bagnaia.
Whilst Marc Marquez was celebrating his first MotoGP race win in 1,043 days Alex Marquez was in the gravel. The Gresini Racing rider had made contact with Francesco Bagnaia had both riders ended up out of the race.
The stewards ended up declaring the incident as a Racing Incident and nothing more. However, both Bagnaia and Marquez have laid the blame on each other for the crash.
After hearing Bagnaia's side of the story Marquez got his chance to have his say on their collision. Marquez was disappointed that his race weekend ended how it did after showing strong pace on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. However, the good thing for the Spaniard is that he has walked away without any injuries.
"I am fine, I had an impact on my left leg but nothing is broken just some muscles are a bit stiff," Marquez told MotoGP.com. "I mean it is sad how we ended this weekend. We were quite strong yesterday and also today. I was trying to make my best race, trying to not make mistakes, trying to be constant. I made some small mistakes like everybody else because the track was slippery."
"I was not expecting him because I did not see him" - Alex Marquez
Marquez went on to explain the incident and stated that he 'did not see' Bagnaia before the contact occurred. However, he believes that there is more that Bagnaia could have done to avoid the accident.
"Then later on we had contact with Pecco, I went wide a little bit in turn 12 and when I came back I was not out I was still on the line. I was just going into 13, I was not expecting him because I did not see him, I was on the side of the bike. We had small contact that caused me to pick up the bike and crash together. There was nothing for me to do, I did not see him, I didn't see that anybody was coming, he closed a lot on the line from the outside to the inside. That is it, we ended the race there."
"Nothing will change what happened today..." - Alex Marquez
Despite the stewards declaring the incident as nothing more than a Racing Incident Marquez is still disappointed as nothing will recover the points he lost on Sunday.
"I was alone in Race Direction, we speak alone with the stewards and he was already done there. I mean that is it, it is something that can happen in racing. If anybody could see that I was there it was him because he was on the outside and came across me. If you come from the outside you cannot close the line, you need to leave one metre for the rider on the inside. I am sad because nothing will change what happened today."
