'It is another step in the journey' - Jack Miller comments on Yamaha's V4 decision

Gold & Goose

Jack Miller has discussed Yamaha's decision to change from the inline-four engine to the V4 engine for 2026.

During the Valencia Grand Prix, it was revealed that Yamaha would switch from the inline-four to the V4 MotoGP engine for the 2026 season.

For the Valencia Test (18th of November), the new journey for Yamaha got underway with all four riders having access to the latest version of the V4 Yamaha engine.

Prima Pramac Racing rider, Jack Miller, has tested the V4 engine earlier in the season, but has not had the chance to test it since Misano.

"I've probably only done about 40 laps," Miller told MotoGP World Feed during the Valencia Test.

"I did a couple of hours at Barcelona, and then the same at Misano. That seems like a lifetime ago when we talk about it in MotoGP terms.

"I will be interested to see what evolution the bike will have had in that time, and see what we have to work with. As I have said all along, it will be interesting with all four bikes on track; we have been limited up until this point.

"There will be a flood of data rolling in for the guys."

Before the Japanese manufacturer began their new journey, Miller attempted to lower expectations for the new engine by stating that it is not going to be a 'golden ticket' for Yamaha.

"It is another step on the journey, if there was a golden ticket, all the manufacturers would buy it," he explained.

"Essentially, they are spending hundreds of millions on these motorcycles in the hope of making them better. If we can make the next step, and finish on par with the motorcycle we ended the season.

"We feel like we reached a ceiling with the motorcycle we had, and trust me, we tried everything. With the V4 if we get to par, we feel the ceiling will be so much higher."
