From pole position to the gravel trap, Pedro Acosta suffered a double DNF in the Japanese Grand Prix.
Pedro Acosta's Japanese Grand Prix looked like it would be his best Grand Prix of the season. The MotoGP rookie claimed his first pole position in the premier class on Saturday morning.
However, things took a turn for the worse for the young Spaniard. In the Sprint Race Acosta crashed out of the lead but brushed it off calling it a 'stupid mistake'. But on Sunday Acosta's woes continued as he crashed from second place in the Grand Prix.
After the race, an understandably downbeat Acosta spoke to MotoGP.com about how he crashed at the final corner.
"I was just trying to prepare my way to the main straight a little bit better," Acosta said. "I was trying to be closer to Pecco to try and overtake. Anyway, it was a mistake from my side and for this it is difficult to say something. We were super, super close but let's try again in Australia."
Brad Binder had said that he had been struggling with the front end of his KTM RC16 throughout the weekend. However, when Acosta was asked if he was experiencing the same issues he was certain that his was different.
"No. For me the feeling today was really similar to yesterday," Acosta stated. "It is difficult to accept the crash again, like I said let's try again in Australia because we are getting much closer."
The MotoGP rookie's focus is now set on the Australian Grand Prix in two weeks.
Acosta concluded by saying: "Australia is normally a track where we are quite fast, we can see Brad (Binder) for an example of this. Let's see how the asphalt is there and how the tyres are as that is the question mark."
