Jake Dixon made a 'tiny mistake' at the Qatar Grand Prix, which resulted in him scoring no points and losing the Championship lead.
The opening three rounds of the 2025 Moto2 World Championship had gone according to plan for Jake Dixon. The British rider had won two of the first three races and finished seventh in the season opener.
However, the Qatar Grand Prix, which was a difficult event for all Boscoscuro riders, did not reach his prior levels. Dixon qualified on the front row and looked set to battle at the front with his title rival Manuel Gonzalez.
In the early stages of the race, Dixon was shuffled back to fifth place before making his way back up to fourth, and he was in hot pursuit of Gonzalez.
But disaster struck on lap 12 when Dixon crashed out at Turn 13 after running wide on the kerb. This was his first DNF of the season, and it has also caused him to drop from the top of the Moto2 standings to third.
"It was an unfortunate day, but these things can happen, and I just need to learn from it," Dixon said after the Qatar Grand Prix.
"Ultimately, we had a great weekend here. I made a tiny mistake and went wide and on to the kerb and a dirty part of the track, and I went down. It’s racing.
"But it’s not how we get knocked down, it’s how we get back up that determines how the rest of the year goes. I’ll be strong. I have a strong team around me. We were riding well here, riding fast.
"I’m just looking forward to getting back out there and enjoying myself on the bike again. I’m sorry to the team but let’s see what we can do in the next races."
