Jake Dixon faces an uphill task to haul himself into the 2024 Moto2 World Championship title fight after letting a strong result slip away when he crashed during the early stages of the Grand Prix of The Americas.
The Briton started down the order but a strong start, coupled with an advantageous tighter line into Turn 1, saw him running inside the top five during the early laps.
However, the CFMoto Aspar Team rider’s hopes of securing much needed points on the board after missing the opening two events through injury ended with an off at Turn 1 on lap five.
"I had a really good start, from fourteenth to fourth, but unfortunately I crashed,” he said. “I was running in the front group and the pace was good, I had a good feeling, so I am frustrated because I had the pace to be on the podium."
The DNF means Dixon remains without a point to his name after three events, placing well adrift of the current frontrunners with the current top three of Sergio Garcia, Joe Roberts and Alonso Lopez some 51, 49 and 38 points ahead.
