Jake Dixon's Misano comeback 'feels like a win'

Gold and Goose

Jake Dixon came from 14th on the grid to finish in fifth, something he says 'feels like a win.'

In the build-up to the San Marino Moto2 Grand Prix, it had not been an easy weekend for Jake Dixon. The British rider had only just been inside the top 14 throughout the weekend and Qualified down in 14th for the race.

However, when it was time to go racing the Dixon from recent races arrived. After winning in Aragon Dixon was carrying good form into Misano and once again showed race-winning pace.

The only issue for Dixon was how far down the order he started, in the end, the 28-year-old finished in fifth place. A result that was once again good for his Championship as he finished above his rivals.

“I feel like it's a win, to come from where we came from," Dixon said. "I'm absolutely exhausted, it hasn't been an easy weekend at all. I'm super fit and even for me, it has been really physical. I just tried to stay calm at the beginning and I knew that I would be stronger at the end. If we had been in the first two rows of the grid, we could have afforded to fight for the podium again.

"Today I have got the maximum possible points from the position I started in. I am super happy and I want to thank the whole team. They gave everything this weekend, we never give up, that is the mentality we have this year. We will be stronger here in the next race in two weeks, we cannot afford to repeat what happened this weekend.”

With only seven rounds left of the 2024 season, Dixon is 45 points behind the Championship leader. With 175 points on offer, a Championship challenge is still well within Dixon's grasp.
