After a measured start with the spec-Honda engine yesterday and a slow-tumble today at Jerez, MarcVDS Moto2 front-runner Scott Redding rocketed up the day two test timesheets this afternoon to place himself rourth and only half-a-second slower than leader Thomas Luthi.
Redding, who lapped in 1'42.638, slid off at turn ten just after the returning Marc Marquez had a near-identical crash at the same corner. The Spaniard finished just ahead of Gloucestershire's Redding in third with Claudio Corti in second spot.
Tech3's Bradley Smith bagged eighth place behind Pol Espargaro, Takaaki Nakagami and Mika Kallio with a lap of 1'43.012 which is only nine-tenths off the pace. Gino Rea took his Gresini Moriwaki to 14th place, 1.3s in arrears.
Former champion Toni Elias placed 11th just ahead of fellow MotoGP exile Alex de Angelis with Randy Krummenacher 13th. Max Neukirchner rounded out the top 15 with names such as Simone Corsi, Johann Zarco, Andrea Iannone and Nico Terol further down the order.
