Jorge Lorenzo could take on a new role for the 2026 MotoGP season, helping Maverick Vinales to improve.
It has been revealed that Jorge Lorenzo could return to the MotoGP paddock in a new role, which will see him helping a fellow Spaniard during the 2026 season.
During the quiet period at the start of the Valencia Test, Lorenzo was asked by MotoGP.com about the new role that he may potentially take on next season.
However, the five-time World Champion attempted to remain tight-lipped about who he would be working with.
"It is a possibility, we need to finalise it," Lorenzo told the MotoGP World Feed during the Valencia Test.
"I think many things, many things. Sometimes when you are too much inside yourself, you don’t see things that are clear. To have a person who has lived what you are living for so many years it can give you a competitive advantage, which will be important."
'I am talking with Jorge to see if we can do a partnership...'
Later in the Test, the World Feed went on to speak to Maverick Vinales, who confirmed that he is talking to Lorenzo.
The Spaniard revealed why he wants to acquire Jorge Lorenzo's help for his second season with the Red Bull KTM Tech3 squad.
"As a rider, I need to find the best for myself, still I need to improve in many areas," Vinales later told the World Feed.
"We know that Jorge [Lorenzo] is a specialist in rider technique, so I am always wondering if I can find a way to develop my skills. I think it is really important next year, I believe I have a chance with KTM. I will put everything into working for it.
"Of course, I am talking with Jorge to see if we can do a partnership and work on the details, technique, and structure of the weekend. In terms of KTM, the bike is working, but to make the next step, you need to be excellent on the bike. The best help I can have from someone like Jorge is from home, because you need to work on the homework from home."
