LCR Honda boss labels Johann Zarco as 'crucial' to Honda's revival

Gold & Goose

Johann Zarco will remain in the LCR Honda Castrol squad for the 2026 and 2027 MotoGP seasons.

LCR MotoGP team boss, Lucio Cecchinello, is 'confident' that Johann Zarco's new two-year deal with his team will aid Honda's MotoGP resurgence.

After four years riding for Ducati, Zarco moved to LCR Honda for the 2024 season, and after nearly completing his initial two-year deal, the Frenchman has won a race and claimed a further podium.

Zarco was the leading Honda in the 2024 MotoGP World Championship, and is now the top Honda once again as he sits ninth in the 2025 standings.

On Monday, 1st September, LCR Honda announced that Zarco would remain with their team for a further two years and will remain as a factory-supported rider, despite missing out on a move into the factory team.

"Working with Johann is simply extraordinary; his professionalism is impeccable both on and off the track," he said.

"We are pleased that HRC has renewed its trust in him for the next two years, and we are confident that his contribution to the development of the RCV in 2026 and 2027 will be crucial in our mission to bring Honda back to the top of the rankings.

"We are also proud to have been confirmed as a trusted partner of HRC in managing Johann and to continue being part of the Honda family."

On the same day, Honda announced that Luca Marini would remain with the factory Honda HRC Castrol squad for the 2026 MotoGP season.

There is still one seat remaining in the LCR Honda squad alongside Zarco. However, it is expected that Diogo Moreira will sign for the LCR Honda squad on a one-year deal, with a further two-year deal with Honda HRC Castrol for 2027 and 2028.
