The Monster Energy Yamaha riders are already looking ahead to 2025 after a disappointing 2024 season.
Monster Energy Yamaha has finished what was ultimately a tricky 2024 MotoGP season. The Japanese manufacturer once again only had two Yamaha M1 machines on the grid.
Fabio Quartararo ended the season in 13th in the Championship with Alex Rins in 18th. The Frenchman ended his season with an 11th place in Barcelona, whereas the Spaniard finished his season in 21st.
"We tried the hard tyre, which we never tried during the weekend," Quartararo admitted. "I had nothing to lose and only good information to gain. I think it was the correct choice, but we did lack grip.
"We know what we need to improve, but I do think I did one of my best races. We finished only 10s from the top, even if my position isn't super good. I think that we can be happy with the race we did."
After leaving Honda at the end of the 2023 season to join Yamaha, Rins has now had two difficult years in a row. The Spaniard highlighted the importance of the MotoGP Test at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on Tuesday.
"Overall, we didn't finish the season in the best way," Rins stated. "I struggled from the first to the last lap. I couldn't be competitive. I was trying some things whilst riding, but it didn't matter. The same problems remained. We couldn't find a good set-up here, which is a big shame, especially coming from Sepang where we were feeling better with the bike.
"Let's see what we can do on Tuesday when we start work for the new season. We have some new items to test but, for sure, a big priority for us is also to find a good set-up so we can test these new items in a proper way."
Yamaha will have two extra factory-specification Yamaha M1s on the MotoGP grid in 2025. The Japanese manufacturer will be bolstered by the arrival of the Pramac Yamaha Racing Team, who have signed Jack Miller and Miguel Oliveira for next season.
