Lorenzo and Rossi hatch plan to scotch Motegi's MotoGP round

Arch rivals Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have temporarily buried the hatchet in order to try and persuade MotoGP bosses to cancel the planned Motegi MotoGP round in October.

The pair had a meeting in Rossi's motorhome on Friday at Barcelona to discuss the matter with Lorenzo saying 99 per cent of the paddock are not keen as they don't know whether it is safe or not, and that he doesn't trust any governmental information

"I have a meeting with Valentino in his motorhome as he has power over the paddock and the safety commission. If some of the strong riders decide not to go then it will be difficult for the organisation to make it but I don't know if he is completely decided to go," said Lorenzo.

"I am not convinced to go to Japan. I watched a movie on Spanish television called Chernobyl: 25 Years Later and the radiation arrives from there to the USA, to Japan and to parts of Europe so I don't trust so much the government. Not the Japanese government but all the governments and the information they give out.

"Ninety nine per cent of the riders are not very excited to go there and many of them will not go if the race is on. I will try to get information and then decide. I can't guarantee I will go but I can't say."

Rossi said: "We discussed it (in the safety commission) and the race is 99 per cent on. A lot of people are scared about the situation and a lot of guys have come to me to say this but I think the best way is to wait for two or three months to understand how the situation develops but I think the grand prix is on."
