Speed Up’s Sam Lowes will try a new swingarm configuration at this weekend’s Austin MotoGP round but isn’t expecting anything better than a top ten result at the Texas track and he is no longer hampered by the tendonitis that halted his Jerez test early.
The reigning World Supersport Champion has already tested the unit at Qatar but this weekend will add some more rear weight bias in his effort to bag another top-ten result to his brilliant opener in the desert.
“I think my wrist is ok now so there shouldn’t be any problems there. We will use the same bike from Qatar but we’re going to try the swingarm that didn’t work there with a bit of modification and weight on it to see if that makes any difference,” said Lowes, speaking to bikesportnews.com.
“It’s a track I don’t know. It looks long and technical but we should be able to suss it out. I like learning new places and we have a lot different to World Supersport but going there and being on lap record pace isn’t easy is it?
“I was quite happy with Qatar to end up with sixth and I think that another top ten this weekend will be useful. Two top tens from the first two races will do and then it’s on to Argentina which no-one has seen before, so it’s more of a level playing field.
“I am not expecting to finish top five yet, I want to build up and start to get those sort of results towards the end of the year and then get into the second season with everything I need to do the job.”
