Luca Marini is aiming for a better Qualifying performance in America

Gold & Goose

Better Qualifying positions will aid Luca Marini in his hope for more positive results with Honda.

The 2025 MotoGP World Championship has been a promising start for the Honda Racing Corporation.

The Argentine Grand Prix saw three Honda riders inside the top ten with LCR Honda rider, Johann Zarco in sixth and the Honda HRC Castrol riders Joan Mir and Luca Marini in ninth and tenth.

Since joining the factory Honda team in 2024 Marini had not featured inside the top ten in a Grand Prix until the 2025 Argentine Grand Prix.

The Italian rider is hoping that these positive results will become a regular occurrence for himself and Honda.

However, Marini knows better Qualifying sessions will allow him to have more top-ten finishes. In the opening two race weekends of the season, Marini qualified in 16th place.

The only other Honda rider Marini has been able to outqualify so far in 2025 has been MotoGP rookie, Somkiat Chantra.

"I am looking for more in Austin, we have been happy with how the first two races have gone but now it’s time to take a step," Marini stated.

"If we can have a better performance when qualifying, we can be much closer to everyone. In Argentina, I was happy with my pace in the race and able to close a lot of distance to the leaders, but like this you arrive at a point where you can’t do more when you are catching up and using the tyre.

"Starting higher will help us to be more competitive. COTA is a track I like a lot, so I want to make the most of this weekend."
