Marc Marquez discusses his 'perfect weekend' at Aragon

Gold & Goose

Dominance at MotorLand Aragon marked Marc Marquez's first Grand Prix victory since Qatar as he took control throughout the weekend.

Despite his dominance in the MotoGP Sprint Races, Marc Marquez had not won a Grand Prix since the Qatar Grand Prix in April.

However, he was able to return to the top step of the podium at his home Grand Prix in Aragon. The Spaniard topped every session throughout the weekend and claimed the maximum points possible.

"This weekend was a perfect weekend for us," Marquez told MotoGP.com after the Aragon Grand Prix.

"We led all the sessions, and I was very concentrated. If I want to fight for this Championship, I cannot lose any stupid points, like I did in Austin for example.

"Today the race was faster than what I expected, but I was able to manage it well and control it until the end."

During the race, Marquez was able to set Race Lap Records around MotorLand Aragon, but he insists that he was not pushing for this and instead followed how he felt on the bike.

"I was always trying to follow what I felt," he explained.

"I forgot about the lap times, and I was just riding on how I felt. In one moment, I saw I was in the high 1:47's. But in that moment, I did not feel any more, so I stayed quiet, but then the track got faster and faster.

"I was riding in the same way, but it was very important that I did not overheat the rear tyre."

In recent Grands Prix, Marquez has made mistakes while in the fight for victory. However, he was able to extinguish all thoughts of his previous results when he set the fastest lap of the race.

"When there were seven, six, or five laps I started to think about Austin," Marquez admitted.

"I needed to find a solution, then I set the fastest lap. Because of this, I was able to come back to the race more. In the last lap I could cruise, but the previous ones I was pushing."
