During the Indonesian Grand Prix, Marc Marquez suffered a mechanical issue which forced him to retire from the Grand Prix.
Marc Marquez suffered only his second DNF of the 2024 MotoGP season in the Indonesian Grand Prix. The Spanish rider had an engine issue, which saw flames coming out of his Ducati GP23.
Marquez had made a good start from his 12th-place grid slot and was battling inside the top seven. However, he had to pull off the track and end his race early in Mandalika.
The eight-time World Champion has been around long enough to know that these things happen in MotoGP. Marquez accepted that this was not his day after the race and set his sights on the Japanese Grand Prix next weekend.
"We had an engine issue and unfortunately it happened during the race," Marquez said. "It is something that can happen in MotoGP, it is a mechanical thing that is not in our hands. It is not the fault of Ducati, it is not the fault of the team, it just happened. We win together and we lose together, the best thing is that the speed was there and in the race, I felt that every lap was better and I was catching the front group. The next race is in Japan which is a circuit that I like."
Marquez was open on his target for next weekend as he aims to improve his Qualifying and continue his consistency from recent races.
Marquez concluded by stating: "My target is the same as the previous races, try to find consistency and work on my weak points to prepare well for next year. One of my weak points is in Qualifying so let's see if we can improve there and continue with the consistency in the Sprint Race and main Race."
