Marco Bezzecchi was back on the top step of a MotoGP Sprint Race podium for the first time since the 2023 Dutch TT.
On Saturday morning at the San Marino Grand Prix, Marco Bezzecchi took his second pole position of the 2025 MotoGP season.
However, unlike his last pole position, this time the Italian was able to turn it into a Sprint Race podium as he battled throughout the 13-lap race and claimed his first Sprint Race win since 2023.
Bezzecchi took an early lead at the Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli, but he lost the lead to Marc Marquez after a sudden loss of pace in the middle of the race.
The Aprilia Racing rider sat in second place and was watching Marc Marquez extend his lead, until the eight-time World Champion crashed from the lead on lap seven.
Bezzecchi regained the lead and was able to control the pace at the front, and held off Alex Marquez for the remainder of the Sprint Race.
"It was a fantastic Saturday," Bezzecchi said after the Sprint Race at the San Marino Grand Prix.
"I am very happy to grab the Sprint win, I don't even remember my last one. So, I am very happy, very happy.
"The race was not perfect, because we had some issues during the race. But even when I was having these problems, I was able to have a good pace. I knew Marc [Marquez] was on the limit, but I am very happy.
"I gave my all, so I am very happy."
After claiming his first Sprint Race victory of the season, Bezzecchi remains in fourth place in the MotoGP World Championship. However, he has extended his lead over Pedro Acosta to 21 points and is only 28 points behind Francesco Bagnaia in third.
