Marco Bezzecchi reacts to his 'surprise' pole position

Gold & Goose

After making his way through Q1, Marco Bezzecchi was able to claim a surprise pole position for the Austrian Grand Prix.

At the Red Bull Ring, Marco Bezzecchi was able to secure his first pole position of the 2025 season and his first pole as an Aprilia Racing rider.

The Italian had a disastrous Friday afternoon as he ended the opening day in 18th place on the timesheets on the factory Aprilia.

However, after making his way through Q1, Bezzecchi was able to grab an unexpected pole position at the Austrian Grand Prix.

"It is always a surprise when you come from Q1 to Q2, nowadays it is very hard because everyone is super quick," Bezzecchi told TNT Sports after Qualifying.

"But to grab the pole position is fantastic. Yesterday we had some problems, but we worked on them a lot and that has helped me a lot.

"So, a big thanks to the team."

Despite having the grid advantage from securing pole, the 26-year-old is still uncertain of his race pace.

Bezzecchi does not believe he has the pace to run with the Ducati riders of Alex Marquez, Francesco Bagnaia and Marc Marquez.

He also labelled KTM as a manufacturer to watch this weekend, but hopes to get a good start and get stuck in during the Sprint and Grand Prix.

"It will be tough, in terms of pace I do not think I am as quick as them [Alex Marquez and Francesco Bagnaia]," he admitted.

"And also as Marc [Marquez] and Pedro [Acosta]. KTM are really good here as well, so it will be tough.

"But if I make a good start, then hopefully I can fight, and I will have my elbows out and give my all."
