At the age of 17, Maximo Quiles will make his Moto3 World Championship debut this weekend.
At the Grand Prix of the Americas, Maximo Quiles will make his Grand Prix debut in the Moto3 World Championship.
Quiles ended the 2024 JuniorGP Championship in third place and fifth in the 2024 Red Bull Rookie standings. These results secured him a ride in the CFMoto Aspar Moto3 Team for the 2025 season.
However, his debut in the class had to be delayed due to his age. Quiles has just turned 17, and because of a new change in the rules can make his debut at COTA.
Previously, the rules stated that a top three rider in the standings in the Rookies Cup from "the previous season" is allowed to step up to Moto3. With Quiles fifth in the Rookies Cup last year, his Moto3 debut would have needed to be deferred to 2026.
But a recent change to the rules altered the wording of the exemption to allow a rider who finished top three "in any season" to compete in Moto3, rather than the previous season, this is very much seen as the ‘Quiles rule’.
"I'm really looking forward to getting on the bike in Austin," Quiles said.
"I'm a little upset about not being in Thailand or Argentina, but my time in the world championship is finally starting. I see a high level in the Moto3 class, and I'll have to push myself to give my all.
"In the first races, the goal will be to learn and enjoy myself, but, of course, I also want to do well."
