Miguel Oliveira 'could not ask for much more' from his first day as a Yamaha rider

Gold and Goose

Miguel Oliveira was impressed with his first day on the Yamaha M1 in the Prima Pramac Racing squad.

After two years as an Aprilia MotoGP rider, Miguel Oliveira has joined Prima Pramac Racing Yamaha for the 2025 season.

The Portuguese rider has now ridden for KTM, Aprilia and Yamaha in his MotoGP career. On his first day with the Japanese manufacturer, Oliveira completed 60 laps and finished the test in 17th.

However, the #88 was very pleased with how his first test with the Yamaha M1 went.

"It was a positive day," Oliveira told MotoGP.com. "The bike gave me good sensations and I was very happy with the feedback from the team on my first day with them. It was the first day for everyone and we had a lot of Japanese engineers in the garage helping us to make the transition smoother.

"But we could not ask for much more from the first day, I did what I had to do on the bike, and I made some changes to make me feel more comfortable. But that was it, so I am glad about that."

'The bike is very friendly, but we have to make it faster.'

Oliveira was asked about the characteristics of the Yamaha which he described as 'friendly', but he already knows exactly where Yamaha needs to improve before the 2025 season begins.

"The bike is very friendly, you can feel that as soon as you jump on it," Oliveira explained. "But we have to make it a little bit faster. We are now thinking about Sepang because it is the next opportunity we get to test everything and get back to work."

This is now the fourth MotoGP team that the 29-year-old has ridden for as he enters his seventh season in the premier class. Oliveira went on to explain how it feels to join a new team but how he is 'happy' already in his new surroundings.

"It feels strange," Oliveira said. "Because it is a team I had only seen around the paddock and sometimes on the television. But getting to know these people was a pleasure and I am happy to be in this team and I think we are going to be very strong."
