Enea Bastianini joins Ducati Lenovo team-mate Pecco Bagnaia in being a doubt for this weekend’s San Marino MotoGP at Misano after coming off worst in a five rider turn one pile-up in the Catalunya MotoGP.
The Italian misjudged his braking coming into the first right-hander to clip the back of Johann Zarco’s sister Pramac Ducati, sending them both down before then bowling fellow stablemates Alex Marquez, Fabio di Giannantonio and Marco Bezzecchi down as well.
With the red flag shown for both this incident and another involving Bagnaia further round the complex, while Bastianini’s counterparts were able to make the restart, the three-time MotoGP race winner required a visit to hospital to have his injuries assessed.

Following the consultation, Bastianini was diagnosed with a fracture of the malleolus [ankle] and a complex fracture of the second metacarpal of the left hand.
It means Bastianini will need to undergo surgery this week, even if Ducati says he is still targeting a return to action at Misano, scene of his career-making two podiums on the unfancied Avintia Ducati in 2021.
The injuries are the latest setback in what has been a bruising season for Bastianini, who was tipped for a title challenge upon switching from Gresini Racing to the factory Ducati squad in 2023.
However, his season was hampered during the opening round in Portugal when a crash left him with a shoulder injury and a lengthy lay-off from which he is still battling back to competitiveness.
