Suzuki’s Joan Mir finished his Aragón adventure on the podium on Sunday after fighting through the front group from his seventh place qualifying position.
Despite securing his fourth third place of the season, and his first visit to the rostrum since claiming second at the StyrianGP, the Spaniard it seems, was less than impressed. Believing he had the pace to fight for the victory after strong pace in practice, the duelling duo out front were too far down the road by the time he had dispatched Aleix Espargaro and Jack Miller.
“I'm not really satisfied about the third position,” Mir explained from the MotorLand paddock. “I think that during the weekend we show a good pace, probably to fight for the victory.
“I think that the worst part of this race was the beginning, I tried to overtake as many riders as I could, but in some moment I was behind Jack and behind Aleix and it was difficult to overtake them. Then I managed to overtake and they [Marc Marquez and Pecco Bagnaia] were really far. My pace was really similar to them but then they were too far. I'm happy about my performance, today but we couldn't fight for the victory, that's why I'm not so happy but always a podium is a podium.
“For sure with our acceleration, to start seventh is not the best thing,” he continued. “It's difficult to overtake the riders, I have to wait for the mistake of the rider that I have in front, because if not, this is really difficult for me to overtake.
“I was struggling a little bit to stop the bike today, and I was losing quite a lot on the long straight for acceleration. So it's something that we must work on and to try to fix this problem for Misano. I think it will be difficult to do it but to try to be a little bit more competitive than this weekend. I think that we've been pretty, pretty strong during all the weekend,” he concluded.
