Both Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo have opened fire at MotoGP spec-tyre supplier Bridestone, saying they received duff tyres today at Motorland Aragon with Rossi branding it a ‘dangerous’ situation.
The Doctor says he nearly crashed during free practice three on a tyre that ‘doesn’t work’ while Lorenzo said he is ‘worried’ about the inconsistency of the product, even though he set his fastest lap of the weekend on one of two rears he says was faulty.
“Fortunately with the tyre, it doesn’t happen a lot, with me this year is the third time but Bridgestone doesn’t say nothing. Unfortunately, if the tyre doesn’t work we cannot have another extra one. So, we are already like this and when you put the tyre that doesn’t work you have one less, so it is difficult,” said Rossi, speaking at Aragon.
“Is dangerous because this morning I lose the rear and I go very close to crash but is true it only happen just some times but they don’t say nothing. Also last year, three or four times happened. For me is like the tyre doesn’t work, doesn’t create temperature, like if you have a switch and it remain off.”
Lorenzo added: “Today we have two wrong tyres, two defective tyres, first in the morning and then in the second qualifying. I try to push at the limit and ride risky to try to improve but not one tenth, normally we improve three, four or half a second.
“They don’t offer the same grip as normal. It happened to Valentino a few times, happened to me at Jerez and today two times. It’s not just that we have tyres we don’t like for the Yamaha, but also inconsistency of performance. It worries me and today these things made us even slower.”
Bridgestone have been contacted for their opinion on the riders' grievances.
