Repsol Honda's Casey Stoner has set the fastest time in this morning's extended and final MotoGP free practice session at Aragon but he was chased all the way by team-mate Dani Pedros while Randy De Puniet was a surprise in third place.
Stoner found more than 1.5s in pace overnight to take the lead with a 1'49.272 and go inside the lap record but Pedrosa's final circulation brought him to within less than a tenth. However, Stoner's race pace is mighty with nine laps in the 1'49s compared with Pedrosa's, erm, two meaning the Aussie is can run those times on used tyres and do it all day.
Pramac Ducati's De Puniet spent the last portion of the session following Andrea Dovizioso on the third Repsol bike and leapfrogged him on the timesheets with a 1'50.003 while the Italian had to settle for fourth on a 1'50.139.
Dovizioso is still in front of Marco Simoncelli but only by a gnat's as the large-barnetted San Carlo Honda man is only 0.058s off his lifelong rival's pace and within a second of Stoner's time. Ben Spies is in sixth place and first Yamaha after walking away from a turn two crash.
Rizla Suzuki's Alvaro Bautista is once again making a case for the factory to remain in MotoGP, posting the seventh fastest time and only 1.1s off the pace. Reigning world champion Jorge Lorenzo is struggling in eighth place and only 0.050 in front of Valentino Rossi.
The Doctor hauled himself from 14th to ninth with his last lap and has found 1.2s overnight. Team-mate Nicky Hayden is one place behind him and the American has also increased in pace from yesterday's first session dropping from a 1'51.418 to a 1'50.484.
Monster Yamaha's Cal Crutchlow is in 12th place - just behind Hector Barbera - and 1.4s off the pace but the former World Supersport Champion is stone last on the top speed sheet, achieving 194.5mph compared to Pedrosa's 201mph.
