In an effort to solve the problem with riders not being able to use the right tyres for the conditions, Bridgestone offered to ship a truck-full of softer tyres overnight from its German base and the offer was rejected.
Because the teams have to vote unanimously on a change to the sporting regulations, Dorna and the FIM were forced to tell the firm not to bring the extra tyres because at least one team had decided to turn down the offer even after Valentino Rossi, among others, had stated this is what should happen.
"A lot of riders have some problem. For me, the Bridgestone tyres are fantastic and there is something incredible about the performance but the problem is we need more tyres. We need softer tyres when it's cold and harder tyres when it is hot," said Rossi.
"It's very difficult to use the harder tyre when it is colder so we need to have a wider range - it is just a question of quantity I think. "
"In response to an official request our proposal was to bring softer rears (with an extra soft left shoulder) to Assen to give to all riders tomorrow for warm-up and the race," said Bridgestone spokesman Tom Tremayne.
"We were working with the FIM and Dorna and the teams on this. So these tyres were loaded into a truck from our base in Speyer, Germany, to be brought to Assen overnight, but finally we were informed by the FIM and Dorna that there was no unanimous decision by the teams, and seeing as one is required under the sporting regulations for such a change, we are unable to revise our tyre compound options for tomorrow."
